Field assignments, designated home teams, and game times have now been determined and the complete 2012 Cathedral City Classic schedule is officially set.
The nation's most prestigious in-season tournament will feature a record 35 teams, including Fresno State, New Mexico State and Brigham Young of the Western Athletic Conference. The Bulldogs will be making their seventh consecutive appearance in Cathedral City, while the Aggies will be making their first-ever trip to the Palm Springs-area event.
The field, as always, is loaded with national powers, including eight former NCAA softball champions who account for 27 of the 30 all-time national titles. Fresno State, UCLA, Arizona, California, Oklahoma, Washington, Texas A&M and Cal State Fullerton, all of whom are former NCAA softball champions, will appear in the Classic February 23-26 at the Big League Dreams complex.
Big League Dreams is a sprawling complex comprised of five softball fields replicating past and present Major League Baseball stadiums. The 4-day event annually draws thousands of fans from across the country to see the best of the best in the sport of college softball. It's an environment rivaled only by the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, and several of the teams in this field will more than likely reach the WCWS in 2012.
