Tech begins play on February 10 against defending Big Ten Conference champion Michigan in Baton Rouge. On the opening weekend of the 2012 season, the Lady Techsters will also face Penn State and LSU, both of whom reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
Other tourneys for Louisiana Tech next season include visits to host sites Auburn, Mississippi State and Southern Miss. Many of the tournament opponents have yet to be named.
Highlighting the home schedule, which begins March 13, is Southeastern Conference member Ole Miss, which visits on March 14. After opening the season with their first five weekends away from home, the Lady Techsters will play 22 of their next 26 contests in Ruston.
Louisiana Tech, in the uneven WAC schedule, gains an advantage by playing four of its seven series at home. On the road, the Lady Techsters will make their final trips to Honolulu and Fresno as part of conference play, since Hawai'i and Fresno State both are departing the WAC after this season. Nevada, in its final year as a WAC member, travels to Ruston for a meeting with the Techsters in late April.
San Jose State releases its schedule -- The San Jose State softball team has released its 2012 slate, and the Spartans open the season with probably the toughest opponent in the country. At the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, San Jose State will meet host and defending NCAA champion Arizona State to open the season on February 9.That initial weekend in Tempe won't get much easier as the Spartans will face Washington, Texas A&M and Oregon, all of whom advanced deep in the NCAA Tournament a season ago. Later in the season, San Jose State will face marquee opponents Cal, Stanford and Oklahoma State.
The home portion of the Spartans' schedule begins February 22 against Sacramento State. On the third weekend of the season, San Jose State will host four games against Cal State Bakersfield. Highlighting the home slate is a rare visit to SJSU Field by South Bay rival Stanford on April 17.
